เขาแดง

    ตั้งอยู่ในพื้นที่ตำบลคลองวาฬ อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ เป็นภูเขาขนาดกลางที่มีลักษณะโดดเด่น ชาวบ้านบางคนมองว่าเขาลูกนี้มีรูปร่างคล้ายช้างนั่งหมอบอยู่ เมื่อมองจากระยะไกลจะเห็นสันเขาโค้งเป็นรูปหลังช้าง บริเวณไหล่เขาจะเห็นก้อนหินเล็ก ๆ ที่วางอยู่ในลักษณะเอียง ทำมุมประมาณ 45 องศา แต่ไม่หล่นลงมาจากเขา ซึ่งเป็นปรากฏการณ์ที่น่าประหลาดใจและดึงดูดความสนใจของผู้มาเยือน

    บริเวณที่ไม่มีต้นไม้ปกคลุม จะเห็นสีของหินเป็นสีแดงสด จึงเป็นที่มาของชื่อว่า “เขาแดง” โดยสีของหินเมื่อสะท้อนกับแสงแดดจะยิ่งดูเด่นชัดขึ้นในยามบ่าย

ความเชื่อและความศรัทธา

     เขาแดงมีความเชื่อมโยงกับหลวงพ่อเขาแดงที่ชาวบ้านนับถือศรัทธา และทำเลที่ตั้งของภูเขามีส่วนช่วยบรรเทาความรุนแรงของลมพายุที่พัดมาทางฝั่งอ่าวไทย จึงทำให้ชาวบ้านให้ความเลื่อมใสในองค์หลวงพ่อเขาแดงเป็นอย่างมาก และเพื่อความสะดวกในการเดินทางมาเคารพบูชา ชาวบ้านจึงสร้างรูปปั้นของหลวงพ่อเขาแดงไว้ใกล้กับชายหาดคลองวาฬเขาแดงจึงเป็นทั้งสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวทางธรรมชาติ และเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวเชิงความเชื่อ สะท้อนความสัมพันธ์ของธรรมชาติและวิถีชีวิตของชุมชนคลองวาฬ

Khao Daeng 

Khao Daeng is located in Khlong Wan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It is a medium-sized mountain with a distinctive appearance. Some locals perceive the shape of the mountain as resembling a kneeling elephant. From a distance, the mountain ridge appears curved like the back of an elephant. On the mountain’s slope, a small rock can be seen resting at an angle of approximately 45 degrees without falling — a curious phenomenon that fascinates visitors.

In areas where vegetation does not cover the mountain, the rocks appear bright red in color, which is the origin of the name “Khao Daeng” (meaning “Red Mountain”). The reddish hue becomes even more striking in the afternoon sunlight.

Beliefs and Faith

Khao Daeng is associated with the revered figure of Luang Pho Khao Daeng, who is deeply respected by the locals. The location of the mountain is believed to help reduce the severity of storms that come from the Gulf of Thailand. This protective role has further strengthened the villagers’ faith in Luang Pho Khao Daeng. To make it easier for people to pay their respects, a statue of Luang Pho Khao Daeng has been erected near Khlong Wan Beach.

Khao Daeng is thus both a natural attraction and a spiritual tourism site, reflecting the connection between nature and the way of life in the Khlong Wan community.
